Greetings!

My name is Zach Schmidt, and I am the principal at Moorcroft Elementary!  On behalf of our amazing staff, I’m excited to invite you to our school!  

Moorcroft Elementary School is a part of Crook County School District 1 located in Moorcroft, Wyoming, about 25 miles east of Gillette and about 50 miles from the Black Hills of South Dakota. Our school is comprised of grades K-6, as well as 4 special content areas and a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) program to focus on reading/math interventions.  We are home to 327 “little” Wolves (our school mascot) and 54 staff members (32 teachers, 22 support staff) and are considered a Title1 school.

At Moorcroft Elementary, we are extremely proud of our Wolves!  Our students boasted an impressive 94% attendance rate during the 2023-2024 school year, which means our students and families focus on the importance of being in school.  Additionally, Moorcroft Elementary is a school considered “meeting expectations” by the state of Wyoming, with 64% of students scoring proficient/advanced in English/Language Arts and 74% of students scoring proficient/advanced in Mathematics.  Our staff, students, and families place a high value on a quality education and work extremely hard to achieve that!
